
\A team of researchers used an immuno-infrared sensor to identify signs of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in the blood up to 17 years before the first clinical symptoms appear.
They analyzed blood plasma of 240 symptom-free people between 50 and 75 years old with a high risk of Alzheimer’s disease and 68 68 participants who were diagnosed with AD.
The sensor can detect misfolded amyloid-beta proteins with high accuracy.
Nevertheless, it is still controversial whether the misfolded amyloid-beta proteins are the cause of Alzheimer’s or just an accompanying feature.
