Knee surgery can be a daunting idea, and many patients feel overwhelmed and stressed about the prospect of such a huge procedure. However, there are some great ways to help with making the process simpler and more comfortable.
Hi my name is Julie and a fun fact about me is I have been downhill skiing since I was three! It is my favourite activity. However this means I have seen proportionately more people in my life have reconstructive knee surgery. Whether it’s from skiing, another activity or just general wear and tear, having knee surgery can lead to a lengthy rehab. Since I started to specialize in lymphatic drainage I have been interested in helping people recover from knee surgery.
Although build up of lymphatic fluid naturally drains, sometimes the body needs a little extra help. Initial inflammation is good, it’s the body’s way of bringing help to fight off infection or support the joint. However, once those things are done lingering swelling only limits range of motion. It is recommended to have a Lymph drainage session before surgery, to prep the body for the trauma that is surgery. Making sure you have no extra congestion persisting will allow the body to function at an optimal level. This should be done 3-7 days before the surgery.
You can start receiving treatment 24 hours after knee surgery, as long as there is no infection and you have been cleared by the surgeon. Most people need a few days to recover from knee surgery and start coming in after a week. The recommended number of sessions following a knee surgery can be between 2-8 sessions to help you recover.
If you or someone you know is going through this process please reach out to the clinic and book a consultation with me (link to booking site). I would love to help set up a plan to make this process easier and help you get back to the activities you love to do!
