
Orthostatic hypotension (IOH), can create a transient decrease in blood pressure and increase in heart rate. It can result in 40% of the population in dizziness, syncope, lightheadedness, or loss of consciousness
A new study included 22 young women (mean age 32) with a history of OH, trying simple maneuvers to prevent OH.
The maneuvers that effectively improve the blood pressure drop were:
– Prior to standing (PREACT): lower body muscle preactivation through repeated knee raises
– Immediately after standing (TENSE): lower body muscle tensing through leg crossing and tensing
