If you have ever looked around at your friends and family, and wonder, why are they getting massages, and you aren’t… Maybe you don’t understand the many benefits of Massage Therapy.

Among the numerous reasons to receive a massage, these are some of the main points to consider.

Attention and Focus:  Having a regular massage can help bring focus and alertness to your every day work and activities.

Finding your Breath:  With massage therapy, your muscles that surround your ribs, back and abdomen, which allows your lungs and diaphragm to fully expand. More muscle movement = more breath!

Unwinding your Stress:  With stress comes the body’s attempt at handling your stress.. this comes in the form of cortisol (stress hormone from your adrenal glands).  The decrease in cortisol and increase in serotonin and dopamine (happy hormones) provided by massage can help with decreasing stress, reducing anxiety and depression.

Helping Joint Movement & Flexibility: As tight muscles are released and given stretch, the body joints that they cross can start regaining their normal movement, and re-establishing flexibility.

If only we could make daily massages feasible, or if government or health insurance could see the benefit of these wellness treatments, as Massage Therapy is best described.  Until then, finding the right therapist is key, to get the most of each crucial moment on the massage table. You interview realtors, lawyers, and even meet with your doctor for a short interview prior to starting with them for treatment.. why don’t you interview massage therapists?

Make sure you do your research and look for a therapist that fits the mold of what you think you are looking for.  Make sure that your therapist has the highest level of training.  2200 hours is the current highest standard and will be considered the national standard with regulation.  Ensure that the therapist you are researching has passion, enthusiasm and the skills you think fit your needs. Sometimes it takes meeting several therapists to find the right fit.  At our clinic, we encourage clients to try a couple of different therapists and their style of massage to find the right fit.  If you are going to be putting hundreds of dollars into your health care… ensure it is with the right therapist.
